Morse lesson 0001
Decode your first four signals.
Today’s win: recognize E, T, I, and M from tiny sound patterns. That is enough to read toy messages like ME, IT, and TIME once the next letters arrive.
Why sound first?
The ARRL beginner guide recommends learning Morse by how it sounds: dits and dahs, not only printed dots and dashes. The official character set itself is standardized by ITU-R M.1677, but your brain will learn faster if each character becomes a little rhythm.
For now, do not memorize a full alphabet chart. Four signals is plenty.
The first four
E.dit
T-dah
I..dit dit
M--dah dah
Say them out loud once: E is dit. T is dah. I is dit dit. M is dah dah.
Quick reference: First Four Signals.
Practice: recall from rhythm
Which letter is: dit?
Finish in one minute
- Close your eyes and say: E, T, I, M.
- For each one, say the sound pattern from memory.
- Then reverse it: dit, dah, dit dit, dah dah.
If any one feels sticky, ask the agent for a tiny drill. That is exactly what I am here for.
